Sing Me a Fable › Play Me Arcade › R
R is for Rudeness
The Rude Donkey
A donkey who shoves to the front of every line — until winter comes.
What happens in it
Donkey barges past everyone: the hay line, the water trough, a narrow bridge, a squirrel's spilled acorns. You choose what he says next, and watch it play out.
Choose what he says
Each level has two scenes. Donkey is rude, somebody answers him, and then two things he could say appear.
Nothing is timed and there is no going back — whichever he says plays out.
Watch which side the polite answer is on: it moves.
The bar at the top is Rudeness. It fills when he is rude and drains when he is polite.
Tap a button, or use the left and right arrow keys.

Why rudeness is one of the twenty-six
Sing Me a Fable is an alphabet of faults, one for every letter, from Aggression to Zealotry. R is rudeness, and this is the playable half of that fable: the child makes the choice the animal makes, and watches what it costs. Nobody explains the moral afterwards, which is the whole point of a fable and the reason the form has lasted two and a half thousand years.
Every letter has one: twenty-six fables, twenty-six faults, twenty-six games. See the whole arcade, or take the twenty-six colouring posters and Find the Error sheets free.
