Sing Me a Fable › Play Me Arcade › C
C is for Cowardice
Fergus the Scared Sheep
Wolves on the far ridge, and the mist that leaves him alone.
What happens in it
Fergus runs from the wind, from shadows and from wolves on the far ridge, until the morning he comes back and the meadow is empty. Twice a level you choose what Fergus does, and it plays out.
Choose what he does
Each level has two scenes. Two things Fergus could do appear, and you pick one.
Nothing is timed and there is no going back - whichever you pick plays out.
On one scene, running away ends the level early: there is nothing left to rescue.
Tap a card, or use the left and right arrow keys.
The three levels
- The Howling Wind — Trembling in the Meadow, then The Shadow in the Mist
- The Deserted Fields — Wolves at the Gate, then The Lonely Dawn
- A Friend Who Stays — The Mist Crossing, then Standing Together
Why cowardice is one of the twenty-six
Sing Me a Fable is an alphabet of faults, one for every letter, from Aggression to Zealotry. C is cowardice, and this is the playable half of that fable: the child makes the choice the animal makes, and watches what it costs. Nobody explains the moral afterwards, which is the whole point of a fable and the reason the form has lasted two and a half thousand years.
Every letter has one: twenty-six fables, twenty-six faults, twenty-six games. See the whole arcade, or take the twenty-six colouring posters and Find the Error sheets free.
